When doing a photo shoot, bring along your silliest friend.

This right here is life advice for the ages.

I knew I needed photos of me that weren’t based in a hockey rink or massage therapy clinic (both places where I spend most of my time when not in Chirp Land).

Being the superstar he is, Jerry Stamp agreed to take some snaps. Thankfully we did it at that beautiful point in early June in SJ where the sun was shining but there was still a breeze and it wasn’t so hot you’d melt in mere minutes.

I had never done a photo shoot like this before, at least not well, so even though I know Jerry quite well, I wanted another pal to be there for moral support.

Enter Michelle.

Michelle is one of those people that you gravitate towards instantaneously upon meeting. In fact, that’s pretty much how we became friends. Her joie de vivre and laughter are infectious, both great qualities to have around you when trying to look pleasant and like you write children’s books.

Between Michelle giving me awkward and silly looks, and Jerry giving me just enough direction to put me at ease and let my personality shine, we got some photos I really love. Which shocked me. Not that he got good shots - but that I actually loved them.

Oh. A fly flew directly into my eye at one point. That part was not cool.

If you need headshots or photos for a project, you should touch base with Jerry! Don’t forget to recruit your silliest friend while you’re at it.

Not included, photo of me trying to get the fly out of my eye. 😬🙄

Rebecca Gladney

Rebecca is a lot of things, but her absolute favourite title is Aunt. With a brood of nibblings, she's read countless kids books over the years, but wanted more that brought the adults as much joy as the children.

Born and raised in Mount Pearl, NL, she adores being a tourist at home, and is happy now Chirp will help her share that love with others!
