Meet the Maker

I posted this on Instagram, and realized it made sense to leave on here too! Just a few tidbits about me.

I’m happy you’re here! Let me know if we share anything in common, or if there’s something you’d like to see of on here.

👋 hey! I’m Rebecca. I’m an aunt, an adventurer, a registered massage therapist, a billing analyst, and someday I hope to attend medical school at MUN. I also volunteer as therapist to a junior hockey team and as president of Newfoundland Artistic Swimming. You can probably gather that I prefer busy to bored.

🎧 I love music. I spent much of my 20s engrained in the music community and travelling to music festivals and shows. I lean h e a v i l y towards Canadian bands like Arkells, Said The Whale, Tim Baker/Hey Rosetta, Jill Barber, and The Sheepdogs, among a pile of others. I’m also a pop junkie and have taken in Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran performances in other provinces. I’m always looking for a good workday soundtrack. Any reccos? Please send them along!

👦 My lil bestie Stellan, my nephew, inspired the first story in the Chirp series, and it contains some things we love doing together. I try to spend as much of my free time with him and his new baby sis as I possibly can! (Much to their parents enjoyment of the free babysitting! 😂)

🐶 My furry best pal is my dog named Rooner! We call him Roo for short. You’ll see him make appearances on here from time to time, and if you want more Roo sightings, say the word there’s a plethora of camera roll options of him for me to choose from!

📚 My Insta account is really all things Chirp. Chirp’s Large Day is only the first book in a planned series that will eventually see him go across Canada (and maybe beyond?). I made a website to make it easy to follow all of Chirp’s adventures in one place (that’s where you are). I also started a blog over there to talk about some of the considerations that have gotten me to this point and about to hit store shelves since a few people reached out and wanted to know the process involved.

Thanks for following along on this crazy journey!

Rebecca Gladney

Rebecca is a lot of things, but her absolute favourite title is Aunt. With a brood of nibblings, she's read countless kids books over the years, but wanted more that brought the adults as much joy as the children.

Born and raised in Mount Pearl, NL, she adores being a tourist at home, and is happy now Chirp will help her share that love with others!
